Corel Webinar Image

Purple People Eater

This is the image that I painted Tuesday in a webinar for Corel. I recorded the whole thing as a video and will post a compressed version soon. The painting took just over 2 1/2 hours. An hour of which was done during the webinar. I concentrated mainly on applying the skin textures while online with the attendees.

I've been trying to combine some techniques and develop a different working method in Painter and an interesting tool I've discovered(through Todd Lockwood's blog) is the Round Water Blender. He uses it to add lights and darks over a dried wash with the Broad Water Brush. He tones the canvas with the BWB, dries it, puts in another wash, leaves it wet, then uses the RWB with a darker color, and white. The white "wipes" away the wet color, exposing the dried color underneath. It's been a really interesting way to build up color. I still have a LOT of experimenting to do, but it seems to have a lot of potential. I've been trying to combine this method with some of the stuff I've learned from your Advanced Painter book. It's just one of those things I NEVER would have found out on my own. This is the post where he describes it...and there's a video. http://www.tolo.biz/2012/03/19/the-forever-knight/

Jon, Thanks! I will have to go have a look at the video. I have used the round water blender but not in the fashion you mention.
